Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah National Forest

A historic site in Pisgah National Forest.

The Cradle of Forestry is a historic site located in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina. It is the birthplace of forestry in America. You can explore the seven historical buildings from the time of the Biltmore Forest School (1898-1914), climb aboard and ring the bell of a 1914 Climax logging train engine, and interact with historical interpreters through programs and special events. The Cradle of Forestry also offers several guided trails that lead to historical buildings, a 1915 Climax logging locomotive, and an old sawmill. The paved trails are perfect for strollers and wheelchairs, putting the forest at your fingertips. It’s a beautiful old house turned into a museum. I finally got a chance to go and it’s really wonderful. The docents are all very knowledgeable and the history of the home and the house itself are fascinating! I liked it so much I volunteered!
